How to save on electric heating

When the cold comes the electricity bill is a nightmare for many people. The truth is that even if we make great use of electric heating, saving on the bill is possible. It is enough to apply a series of tricks, correctly choose the type of radiator and the use that we give it. If we take all this into account, it is possible to save some money on the bill.

That is why in the following AgroCorrn article we are going to discuss how to save on electric heating ?

Tricks to save on heating

  • temperature of 19 to 21 º C is ideal to maintain a comfortable home during the day, while at night, 15 to 17 º C is sufficient. It is calculated that an increase of 1ºC in temperature increases energy consumption by 7%.
  • It is advisable to always maintain a constant temperature , since large variations in temperature increase the change considerably
  • Take advantage of the hours of greatest amount of light, closing the windows and drawing the curtains at night, so as not to lose the heat of the day . To ventilate the room, 10 minutes is enough
  • Install an adequate insulation system on the windows . It is estimated that heat losses through windows create up to 30% of the need for heating. The insulation of a window depends on the quality of the glass and the frame joinery. It is believed that double glazing reduces heat losses by up to half
  • Close the slits of doors and windows with putty or silicone to avoid unnecessary heat losses
  • Install a programmable thermostat at the optimal temperature. This saves between 8 and 13% of energy
  • Adapt the heating to your schedules . For example, if you are away from home for a long time, it is not necessary to leave it on all day, but it can be programmed up to 1 hour before arriving. Of course, at night it is convenient to turn it off.
  • Compare the offers on the market when hiring electricity, that way we can always get savings.

Heat emitter type

The saving in electric heating does not depend only on the tricks mentioned above, but also on the type of emitter. There are two fundamental types of issuers , which we will select depending on the characteristics of the home and the use that we are going to give it.

  • Dry emitters : these emitters manage to reach the desired temperature quickly, although they also lose it quickly. For this reason, they must be launched frequently, although they are cheaper issuers. Its use is more recommended in places and rooms that need sporadic heating and should not remain on for a long time, for example, a bathroom.
  • Fluid emitters : these are the radiators that provide greater comfort and lower consumption. Although these radiators take longer than dry radiators to reach the desired temperature, they maintain it for longer, so they should not be turned on again and consume again. In this way, the electrical consumption is lower than with dry radiators. The use of these radiators is recommended in places or rooms that require continuous use of electric heating.

Heating regulation

The type of device that allows us to regulate the temperature of the radiator is also important for our final savings in heating. There are three types of regulating devices :

  • Analog regulation : it is a small wheel to mark the desired temperature and it is the most basic regulation device of all.
  • Digital regulation : the regulator is a small programmable screen to mark the desired temperature. The screen is incorporated next to the radiator.
  • Programmable digital regulation via Wifi : it is the most advanced device, since it allows you to program the radiator and control it from the device itself and from any mobile device

If we talk about savings, the least recommended is the analog device, since they do not allow programming or controlling the heating according to the hours of use of the house. Without a doubt, the most recommended are programmable digital devices , since they allow programming and adapting consumption to schedules. They also allow the control of heating remotely, so that they are more exact and precise.
