How to grow the cinnamon tree

Coming from India, this evergreen tree needs to be cultivated in hot and humid climates with average temperatures between 24 and 30º. Hence, it is also cultivated in some other countries in southern China, in Madagascar or in Brazil, for example.

The cinnamon tree should also be grown in rainy areas with a tropical climate , with sandy soils with good drainage and a high content of organic matter. Soil that is too muddy would limit its growth and deteriorate the quality of the bark.

Despite the fact that, as we said, it is a tree of important dimensions, the Cinnamomum can be cultivated in smaller sizes as a shrub, inhibiting its growth through the pruning of the main tips of the tree’s stems.

Regarding reproduction, this specimen can be developed by sowing seeds (more recommended) or by transplanting its cuttings .

But where does cinnamon come from? Specifically from the bark of the tree , which is collected in the rainy months and left to dry for marketing.
