Caigua cultivation

Here we leave you the basic tips so that you can cultivate the caigua:

  • Soil : it needs the soil to be loose and very well prepared, with a depth of between 20-40 centimeters. The substrate must be a mixture of good fertilizers, such as compost or worm castings, always in generous quantities.
  • Temperature : it prefers cold climates to warmer ones, thus achieving the best conditions for its development. Ideally, it should be at a temperature between 14 and 22ºC.
  • Irrigation : it needs a lot of water during all the phases of its cultivation, but always avoiding that it comes into contact with the base of the stem as it could rot. Water as you see that it needs it so that it is always wet.
  • Harvest : it begins more or less 3 months after sowing and usually produces between 8 and 20 fruits per specimen, an amount that depends on the conditions under which it has grown. The amount of fruits also depends on the size they have, since the smaller they are, the greater the quantity there will be since there will be more nutrients to develop them. You have to harvest with scissors to avoid damaging the stems.
