Recycling can be synonymous with saving , both in the economic sense and in conserving natural resources. In both cases it is tremendously beneficial, both for your pocket and for the planet. But not only that, because in addition to supplying savings, recycling is a global vein from which many companies and countries profit, and not always in a lawful way.

Introduction to recycling

As a key to domestic economic savings, in our homes we can recycle an endless number of objects to transform them into something that is useful to us. From collecting bottle corks to make a mat to turning a wheel into a swing, organic waste into compost or, for example, a pallet in a dining room or garden furniture.

The benefit is double, because in addition to giving a second life to the object (saving resources) we managed to save the money that we would have spent by buying a similar one that did the same function, while avoiding pollution, energy waste and carbon footprint that entails discarding it.

Recycling that saves costs

Although saving is the logical consequence of recycling , if we want our recycling gestures to mean savings, it will be easier to achieve it taking into account the following ten keys:

  1. Reduce before recycling: although recycling means avoiding a higher cost in most cases, it will still be more savings if we do without this object. Starting from the three R’s of ecology, reduce and reuse and recycle, we simply follow them in this order if we want to save.
  2. Recycle as a replacement: Following the same idea, recycling that translates into savings is that which covers a need, that is, that which replaces another that we would have had to acquire.
  3. Decorative recycling: Decorating with recycled materials is a good way to save, especially when it is done systematically, as it is an important spending chapter in a home or workplace.
  4. Recycling in the garden: Creative recycling also has great possibilities in terms of plants and flowers or for growing vegetables in small urban gardens. In the long run, we obtain great savings by not having to buy pots, planters, guides, twine and, above all, if we also use pesticides and homemade fertilizers by recycling coffee, egg shells or with compost.
  5. Recycling paper: Learning to spend the minimum amount of paper includes from responsible use, which is reduced to what is strictly necessary, to recycling or reuse by printing on both sides.
  6. Recycling clothes: Clothes are an important expense, while allowing endless possibilities: old t-shirts turned into a scarf, long pants that we cut and serve for the summer, clothes that we transform by painting on them …
  7. Recycling containers: The recycling of glass or plastic containers, including bottles and carafes, is a real goldmine that will save us good money on functional and decorative objects.
  8. Recycle furniture : Furniture can radically change its appearance just by painting it a different color. Recycling old furniture is a great opportunity to save significant amounts.
  9. Recycle for cleaning : Old t-shirts are ideal for making cleaning cloths or, for example, we give use to discarded toothbrushes. It will also be interesting to make our own cleaning products with the remains of soap bars, coffee grounds or, without going any further, recycling the lemon peel itself.
  10. Recycle to resell or give away : In addition to being able to sell many objects that are not used and that are in good condition, we can improve them or do creative projects that can be sold or, why not, be an ideal gift.
