Creative recycling: fun and original pots

In this creative recycling, discovering what objects we can recycle is an essential first step to achieve the best results. You don’t always need to be a handyman or spend hours doing the transformation. Fortunately, very often one idea is enough to make a big difference.

The more original and fun, the better, and if it is also basically a simple recycling or reuse, then honey on flakes. Of course, if we can not think of anything, we can always be inspired by others or, if what we are looking for has already been invented, let’s take advantage of it.

In this post we are going to propose several ideas, but above all we seek to demonstrate to what extent the craziest and most original proposals allow us to achieve spectacular effects . The garden is a great place to do creative recycling for practically no money.

Reuse, recycle, imagine …

Except in original houses from cover to cover, the garden generally admits more oddities and decorative innovation than the interior of the home. Without further ado, therefore, let’s get to the point, taking into account that the imagination is a muscle that should be exercised.

Being in good shape when it comes to being creative means reusing and recycling objects that we are about to throw away, that we find in a rake or, for example, next to a garbage container. Be that as it may, his thing is to make ideas flourish and get down to work.

A thousand and one possibilities

Daring to create can mean anything from taking advantage of plastic bottles, cans, pans, wellies, old shoes , chairs, bathtubs, furniture or parts of these (drawers, let’s say), pallets, car or truck wheels, or any other object in which seeds or the same plants can germinate and / or grow.

The possibilities are so many when it comes to converting an object into a pot or planter, and also into a planter that, simply, the limits are set by each one. It is not easy, it is true, but you also learn about being inventive and, as in so many things, everything is to start and do it with enthusiasm.

Of course, it is important that all projects have in common both a good drainage so that the water does not accumulate and end up rotting, as well as a size consistent with that of the plant, always thinking about the ornamental ones. On the contrary, the edibles do not accept all kinds of materials.

Based on these two golden rules, almost anything works for us: from a computer keyboard in which we introduce soil to fill it with sprouts, the pasta strainer or drainer, painted or unpainted cans of different sizes. Placed on a flat surface, hung or attached to the wall, alone or together with others, forming a vertical garden.

In the case of a porous surface, such as wood or a chiruca, for example, it is necessary to create a protective barrier with plastic or other waterproof material . In turn, it will help us to choose plants that do not require frequent watering, such as cacti or succulents.

Originality can go hand in hand with an unexpected object, even the place where we place it, how we do it (mural, hanging …) with our own colors or drawings or also through words. In the latter case, appropriate phrases such as “Plant your dreams and happy days will grow”, “I love green” or “Green, I love you green”, among many others, will help us decorate while we can express ourselves.

Clay pots

Broken clay or terra cotta pots, on the other hand, are a temptation for creative minds. Basically, it is about taking advantage of the broken piece to create an unexpected miniature world, as if it were a terrarium. In addition, it is an opportunity to reuse other objects, combining them with plants in an imaginative way.

If we want to give a second life to broken wellies or those that have become too small, we just have to do it. It is really simple, and the result could not be more striking.

Logically, it is not mandatory to place them together, but if we want to turn them into a truly decorative pot, we must take into account the characteristics of the plant and the color of the boot. It is important from the color of the leaves and flowers to their shape.

Where to put the pots

But where to put them? Although they are boots , they can perfectly be hung on a fence or wall and, of course, also next to the door, as a welcome. If they are high boots, something very common in this type of footwear, his thing is to place them next to a vertical surface or fix them in some way to prevent the wind from knocking them down.

As with the rest of our planters, let’s make some small holes to ensure drainage. Their material saves us having to line them. It will be enough to fill them with soil and plant those seeds, seedlings or plants. We will hardly find an idea easier to implement.

Finally, pallets are also a gold mine to practice creative recycling in the garden and also in our small organic garden. There is no need to do anything special either, as the same pallet, as is, is a fantastic planter for numerous little plants.

It will serve us hanging on the wall or, even easier, on the ground, on the ground itself. We will fill in the holes with the earth and then we will place our favorite flowers or vegetables such as lettuce, radishes, etc., in which case it is better not to paint.
